Tour description

This 1-day Sumatra EcoTravel tour starts at 08:30 am with a local transfer (about 1 hour) to Batu Katak, a simple, traditional village. The main income of the villagers is from rubber and palm oil, with tourism picking up slowly. On arrival we meet our local guide who will provide first-hand information. Then we start walking up through rubber plantations to the Berkail River and follow it upstream heading towards Gunung Leuser National Park. The area is mostly wet, mossy and often rocky. While hiking through beautiful nature your guides are looking out for the biggest and the highest flowers in the world, the Rafflesia Flower and the Amorphophallus Titanum. During this tour we also often see wild orangutans and many other monkeys like long tail macaques, pig tail macaques, Siamangs, Thomas leaf monkeys or silvertail macaques. After the tour you will have lunch by the riverbank, during a rest you can swim and relax. In the afternoon, a car will take you back to Bukit Lawang. The flowers are very rare to see as they only bloom for 4-5 days. Of course, we can only offer this tour in the blooming season – just ask on arrival!
