The Hangout@ EcoTravel
Bukit Lawang Hotel With Magic Jungle Views
Reconnect with nature and rekindle your spirits with breathtaking and undisturbed jungle views from The Hangout Bukit Lawang. We were extremely lucky to be offered a run-down property in an exclusive location next door, on the banks of the enchanting Bohorok River. After more than 6 months of restoring it from scratch we finally opened our new small boutique accommodation next to our popular EcoTravel Cottages in June 2020. This unpretentious hotel with four rooms and fantastic views is the perfect place to switch off – a place you’ll want to return to before you even leave.
Jungle Chic – Simple Comforts In Style
The Hangout Bukit Lawang features a style we call „jungle chic“ – guided by simplicity, comfort and taste. Three cosy jungle view rooms are equipped with minibar, roof and/or standing fans, a lock-up safety box, mosquito nets, tea and coffee making facilities, hair-dryer and electricity boxes. Each room has a balcony with great frontal jungle views! Nearly touching Bohorok River, there is a fresh breeze from the river and the rainforest. Guests traveling on a smaller budget will appreciate our super basic budget choice – a room without balcony or jungle views. But all new rooms provide hot water shower and WiFi – and the unforgettable sounds of the jungle and the river lulling you to deep sleep.
Award Winning, Friendly And Personal Service
Our philosophy is to live in harmony within our unique ecosystem. Our goal is to make your stay unforgettable from the moment you arrive in the jungle. Experience the award winning service of our popular EcoTravel Cottages in our new next door accommodation The Hangout Bukit Lawang. Come and unwire from your high-voltage urban life. Next thing, reconnect yourself to nature’s tranquillity. Let jungle sounds nibble your ear and let lush green fill your eyes. Pampered by the friendly, personal service of our EcoTravel team your jungle holiday will be an experience to be remembered. Our guests at both EcoTravel Cottages and The Hangout enjoy full housekeeping, office and guiding services from our EcoTravel team.
Both properties are connected, making sure all residents can enjoy our beautiful garden with river access and our new Hangout Lounge with great jungle views. All our accommodation offers an authentic and original stay in a total of 9 rooms with prices ranging from super budget to deluxe. Both our boutique hotels blend modern comforts with local building materials, traditional construction techniques and natural components. The main difference between the popular EcoTravel Cottages and our new development is the size of rooms and bathrooms.
To boost your energy for any outdoor activities all our EcoTravel guests can choose between five delicious breakfast sets every day. For lunch or dinner there is no restaurant at The Hangout nor at EcoTravel Cottages as we specialize in decent accommodation and our highly popular tours. Nevertheless, there’s no need to stay hungry: choose from a dozen of good restaurants with our cottages being just a few minutes from the old orang-utan feeding platform and on the Bohorok riverside of the Bukit Lawang walking way.
A Social And Ecological Concept
Most of the food we offer is sourced locally. We follow ecological guidelines by managing different types of waste and avoiding plastic. Drinking water is available for free to all our guests during their stay.
Apart from that our employees work on a steady basis with reliable working times and regular days off – a social concept which is not yet very common in this area. All our staff are from nearby villages, even if that means their English is not very good.
We have introduced a rotating system of guiding and supervising, with guides switching posts with our cottage managers on a weekly basis. The result is a kind of pension scheme giving our guides a regular job even if they get older and lack the fitness for regular guiding.
And what is the most important effect of all these efforts? Our 12-strong team is able to pamper a maximum of 24 guests in 9 rooms at The Hangout Bukit Lawang and EcoTravel Cottages at the same time – you shouldn’t ask for less!
Jungle View Room
Our two downstairs Jungle View Rooms offer 30 square meters (standard double) and 40 square meters (superior double) of living space for 2 or rather 3 persons. Each room has a big balcony with hammock and great views over the Bohorok River and the jungle. Both rooms have a comfortable queen size double bed (1,80×2 meters), the bigger one is equipped with an additional sofa bed (1 ×2 meters).
Orangutan Room
Our Orangutan Room offers panoramic views of the Sumatran rainforest. This 30 square meter room features a comfortable queen size double bed (1,80×2 meters), a private entrance and a private balcony. The western bathroom with hot water shower is a bit smaller – but the chance of spotting orangutans from the big balcony is so much bigger! This room is perfect for younger couples or just for everyone looking for stunning jungle views.
Budget Room
For EcoTravel guests travelling on a budget we can offer one cosy budget room – without balcony and without views. Appr. 20 square metres of living space set on the backside of the hotel are equipped with a 1,80×2 m bed, mosquito net, safe and a small private bathroom with western toilet and hot water shower. This room is perfect for single travellers or young couples who are just looking for a comfortable room without any additional luxuries.
